As time has progressed, I have found it hard to find quality items that have little, or no social and environmental impacts. Mass production causes huge amounts of by-product waste, while cheaper alternative materials often are short lived and poor quality. Spending a bit more money on something that will last you for the rest of your life, is a far better investment than replacing cheap products each year. Or, even better, make it yourself.
Learning how to make things myself, such as wallets, soap, ceramics and other things has allowed me to experiment with lots of different medias. I created Solstice Studios to publish my arts and crafts under a unified image of sustainability and care for the environment.
Hopefully we can shift away from the current trend of consuming cheap mass produced products which have high carbon footprints and unsustainable ties by encouraging people to DIY or support local creatives.
